Who We Are

Sharing Excess delivers surplus food to communities in need. 40% of all food produced in the US goes to waste every year, while over 40 million people experience food insecurity. Our mission is to bridge the gap between excess and scarcity by partnering with grocery stores, restaurants, wholesalers, and farmers to deliver surplus food to a network of nonprofits, food banks, and community organizations to alleviate local food insecurity.

What We Do

In order to support our mission, we have several volunteer opportunities available throughout the week. The opportunities are: Sorting Produce at PWPM [8AM-11AM] Sharing Excess is looking for volunteers to join us at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market to assist with sorting and packaging donated produce to be redistributed out into the community! This opportunity is held within a refrigerated warehouse space, so please dress warmly :) Saturday MLX Free Food Pop-Up [12PM-2PM] Be a part of our mission to alleviate food insecurity in our community by redistributing excess food that would otherwise go to waste. Sharing Excess hosts pop-up distributions at Malcolm X Park at 52nd and Pine to bring free food markets directly to neighborhoods. Volunteers will assist with setting up tents, tables, produce bags, and distribute food out to community members, no questions asked.
